Internal Funding Opportunities 

Medical Student Travel Awards 

Medical Student Travel Awards will support conference travel, up to $500 for domestic travel and up to $750 for international travel, to present research findings. Students must be first author on the research poster/presentation. The awards are limited to one award per fiscal year (July 1-June 30), per student. Awards are granted based on availability of funds and at the discretion of the Office of Research and Grants. Funding requests are accepted on a rolling basis.All student travel must follow the OHIO Student Travel Policy. 

OHIO Student Travel Policy

帝王会所's Student Travel Policy is designed to manage university-affiliated student travel. This policy defines student travel as taking place over 100 miles from the student鈥檚 campus of departure, including an overnight stay and/or taking place outside the state of 帝王会所. For medical students on clinical rotation, the campus of departure is defined as the site of their clinical rotation.

Medical Student Virtual Conference Awards 

Medical Student Virtual Conference Awards will support virtual conference registration, up to $500, to present research findings. Students must be first author on the research poster/presentation. The awards are limited to one award per fiscal year (July 1-June 30), per student. Awards are granted based on availability of funds and at the discretion of the Office of Research and Grants. 

Funding requests are accepted on a rolling basis from August 1 to April 30.

Medical Student Research Seed Funding Grants 

Medical Student Research Seed Funding Grants are intended to provide support for medical students to gain experience in research methodologies and conduct a research project under the direction of a research mentor. The maximum award is $3,000.

Funding requests are accepted on a rolling basis.

Research Publication Support Program

The Research Publication Support Program, funded by the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine Office of Research and Grants, assists Heritage College faculty, staff and students to disseminate their research through the publication of scholarly work. This program covers, in part, funds for the publication fee of manuscripts that have been accepted for publication in accredited journals (i.e., indexed in PubMed, Scopus or comparable databases). 

 

Research and Scholarly Advancement Fellowship Program 

RSAF is a summer fellowship program that introduces scholarly work for osteopathic medical students working under the guidance of Heritage College faculty or affiliated faculty. This program is open to medical students during the summer between years one and two of their medical education.

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity oversees several internal award programs to support the research, scholarship and creative activity of faculty, staff and students. Medical students are eligible for the following: 

  • Student Enhancement Awards
  • CRSCA Discretionary Fund (to fund unique opportunities or emergencies only) 
  • John J. Kopchick Molecular and Cellular Biology/Translational Biomedical Sciences Research Fellowship Award (DO/PhD students in the MCB or TBS programs only)

The purpose of this award is to provide students wishing to participate in Infectous and Tropical Disease Institute (ITDI)-sponsored education abroad programs with partial financial assistance to cover travel-related expenses through a competitive process.

The Global Health Initiative offers travel scholarships to students in the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and the College of Health Sciences and Professions who participate in any of OHIO's faculty-led global health programs and/or Heritage College third- or fourth-year global health elective rotations (OCOM 8911) or physician assistant global health rotations.

External Funding Opportunities 

American Osteopathic Association Research Training Grants 

Resident physicians, fellows and osteopathic medical students can apply for AOA grant funding to support projects that address one of AOA鈥檚 two research focus areas: (1) Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and Treatment on the Prevention and Management of Musculoskeletal Injuries and (2) Acute/Chronic Pain Management.
