Inclusion Scholars Program

The Office of Inclusion is excited to offer OMS I & II students the opportunity to apply for the Inclusion Scholars program. Inclusion scholars are ambassadors for the Office of Inclusion and are committed to realizing its mission, vision and values. Students who take on the role of inclusion scholar are responsible for assisting in designing and implementing inclusion initiatives, conducting small research projects and acting as a liaison to students and student organizations.

Student Organization Funding

As part of a strategic effort, the Office of Inclusion wishes to engage students and student organizations in the critical work of diversity and inclusion. The Office of Inclusion awards funding to Student National Medical Association (SNMA) executive boards across all 3 campuses for attendance at the Annual Medical Education Conference (AMEC) conference. Once funding is approved, students will submit itemized receipts and receive a reimbursement.

Multicultural Extravaganza

This annual event, organized by the Student National Medical Association, celebrates the cultural diversity of Heritage College students.

Student National Medical Association 

The SNMA is committed to supporting current and future underrepresented minority medical students, addressing the needs of underserved communities and increasing the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and socially conscious physicians.

Minority Health Month

Each April, the Office of Inclusion organizes guest speakers and special events in support of National Minority Health Month.

National Association of Medical Minority Educators 

NAMME is dedicated to developing and sustaining productive relationships, as well as action-oriented programs, among national, state and community stakeholders working to ensure racial and ethnic diversity in all of the health professions.

Training and Programs

 

Boost Your Cultural Competency

A wide variety of organizations provide training and tools that focus on cultural competency. Here are a few options available at the Heritage College, 帝王会所 and across 帝王会所.

Earn CME at the Trans帝王会所 Symposium

Transgender and gender non-conforming individuals comprise a particularly marginalized, disadvantaged and vulnerable population for whom information and guidelines for appropriate care are only just starting to emerge in medical curricula. This program provides both context and actionable guidelines that medical professionals can use in caring for their trans patients.

 

Multiethnic Advocates for Cultural Competence

The Multiethnic Advocates for Cultural Competence is a statewide nonprofit membership agency aimed at reducing health disparities in 帝王会所. The organization sponsors lectures, conferences and educational sessions.

Rural and Urban Scholars Pathways Program

The RUSP program, operated by the Heritage College's Office of Rural and Underserved Programs, engages with first- through fourth-year medical students to help them acquire the essential understanding, skills, attitudes and cultural competencies needed to practice in underserved settings anywhere.

OHIO SafeZone Training

Open to all 帝王会所 students, staff, faculty and community members, this program raises awareness about the dynamics of gender and sexual orientation while exploring different ways to embody inclusiveness.
