Certificate Requirements

Program Overview

The Jewish Studies Certificate provides undergraduate students with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge about Jewish history, culture, and literature. The program brings together a number of disciplines (history, classics and world religions, English, Jewish studies, and political science).

Students will take one of three basic courses (in biblical literature or Jewish history) and then a sampling of courses offered in five different areas, with at least one course in four of the five areas.

Careers and Graduate School

The graduates with this certificate will have an increased knowledge about Jewish history, culture, and literature.

Admissions Information

Freshman/First-Year Admission: No requirements beyond University admission requirements.

Change of Program Policy: To apply for the certificate, a student should go to his or her college office, ask for an "Application for Update of Program" form, fill it out, including the program code CTJWST, and bring the form to the certificate coordinator.

External Transfer Admission: No requirements beyond University admission requirements.

The Jewish studies certificate program requires a minimum of 18 hours.

Required Course

Complete one of the following courses:

  • CARS 3000 - The Hebrew Bible (Christian Old Testament, Jewish Tanakh) Credit Hours: 3
  • JS 1000 - Introduction to Jewish Studies Credit Hours: 3

Elective Requirement

Complete any three of the following courses, including at least one CARS or JS course and at least one HIST course.  or  can only count towards this requirement if the course was not used to fulfill the 鈥淩equired Course鈥 category above.
