Experience the “Through a New Lens” exhibit with the Kennedy Museum of Art
The Libraries have partnered with the Kennedy Museum of Art and the College of Fine Arts “Through a New Lens: Artists’ Books and their Creators in the 2025 Museum Studies Certificate Program Exhibition-virtual panel.” The event will take place on Wednesday, April 23 from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. at the Kennedy Museum of Art with a available too. A question and answer as well as an open conversation will occur. The event is free, and all are welcome both in person and online.
The panel highlights five creators of artists’ books featured in the 2025 Museum Studies Certificate Program exhibition, “Through a New Lens.” Selected by the student curators, each artist will provide a brief introduction to themselves, their work and the selected book. The artists include Sarah Brown of Questionable Press, Crystal Cawley, Maureen Cummins, Casey Gardner of Set in Motion Press and Haein Song.
The event also is a part of the close, annual collaboration between Archives & Special Collections, the Kennedy Museum of Art and OHIO’s Museum Studies Certificate Program.
The books will be available to view in person at the Kennedy, along with the full exhibit both before and after the panel. Attendees at the Museum can also participate in a hands-on bookmaking activity, led by Hannah Moulen, graduate assistant and a master of fine arts candidate in printmaking. The exhibit itself will be on view at the Museum from April 11 to Sept. 7.
Miriam Intrator, head of Archives & Special Collections and Rare Book librarian, mentioned that the exhibit will be an opportunity for others to learn more about the Libraries as well as how to utilize it to their advantage.
“The event will help inform other students, faculty, staff and community members about the types of materials held in Libraries' collections and about the ways in which students can engage with these materials, both in and out of the classroom,” Intrator said.
She also mentioned that the collaboration will shed some light on potential for what goes into curating exhibits while spotlighting artists.
“I hope that attendees will learn more about the art of the book, about these particular artists and about Museum Studies and how students make their selections and think about their exhibit,” Intrator said.
Sandra Harris, executive director of the Kennedy Museum of Art and Museum Studies certificate, said that the partnership with the Libraries has been super important to the program.
“Our students have been fortunate to meet with professional staff and have access to collections eligible to be loaned for the annual exhibition year after year,” Harris said. “This prepares them to understand first-hand research, exhibition, and education aspects of museum work that will benefit them in their careers.”
