Learning Commons FAQs

What should I bring to my tutoring session?

Bring your textbook, class notes, syllabus, and any specific assignments or problems you're struggling with. It's also helpful to come prepared with questions or topics you鈥檇 like to cover. Having everything ready ensures you can make the most of your session.

But is you aren't sure what questions to ask - we can still help! Bring all your materials and your tutor will help you identify areas you understand & those you may need to work on.

I tried tutoring, but my tutor wasn't a good fit. What should I do?

We understand that sometimes a tutor might not be the best match for your learning style. You can always request to switch tutors! Reach out to our office at tutoring@ohio.edu, and we鈥檒l help you find another tutor that better suits your needs. Your comfort and success are our priority.

What if I can鈥檛 make it to my session?

If you know you can't attend, try to cancel your appointment as soon as possible using our online scheduling system or by calling, emailing, or stopping by our office. This allows another student to take the slot, and it helps tutors plan accordingly. If something unexpected comes up, let us know at your earliest convenience.

Remember that one (1) missed session or two (2) cancelled sessions will result in an automatic block on your TracCloud account. If that happens, please email tutoring@ohio.edu and a staff member can work with you to clear the block.

If you are able to cancel with 48 hours notice - send us an email and we can delete your session so you don't incur a penalty. Our goal is to keep as many sessions open for students seeking support as possible - not to unduely penalize you when life happens.

How often can I schedule tutoring sessions?

You can schedule tutoring sessions weekly or as often as you need. If you feel that regular weekly sessions would help, many students benefit from reserving a spot for consistent support throughout the semester.

You are also welcome to schedule up to three (3) tutoring sessions a week on your own. If you want to sign up for additional sessions - let us know!

I can't find a tutor. What should I do?

If no tutoring sessions are showing up in the TracCloud search, please let us know. You can email tutoring@ohio.edu, call our front desk, or stop by the office and we can assist you.

Unfortunately, we can't staff a tutor for every course. But we will try our best to find you someone to work with or we will try to help you find alternative support elsewhere on campus.

Is tutoring free?

Yes! All services provided by the AAC are free to students for as many times as you want to visit us.
