Vinton Cerf

Vinton Cerf

Vinton Cerf is recognized as one of the founders of the Internet. Working for the Department of Defense鈥檚 Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) from 1972 to 1982, he, along with Robert Kahn, invented the TCP protocol, which continues to serve as the foundation of Internet communication.

Dr. Cerf鈥檚 accomplishments are many. While working for MCI, he was the leading engineer in the creation of MCI Mail, the first commercial email service connected to the Internet. Dr. Cerf is currently the 鈥淐hief Technology Evangelist鈥 at Google.

Professor Trevor Roycroft presented the Strowger Award to Dr. Cerf in 2001 during Communication Week.
