Secure Your Account

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security feature that adds an extra layer of security on top of basic usernames and passwords. It does this by requiring your password (something you know) and sending a notification to your cell phone (something you have) to verify it's you logging in. MFA is used in a wide variety of situations in everyday life. For example, ATMs require both your card (something you have) and your PIN (something you know). Everyone with an OHIO ID is required to to protect their sensitive information. We recommend using MFA for all your digital accounts - not just University affiliated services.

Passwords can easily be stolen:

  • Large companies fall victim to hackers frequently. If you re-use credentials for multiple sites, your password could get leaked in a corporate data breach.
  • Downloading software from the internet.
  • Clicking on links in phishing emails.

Most people only have one layer of security - their password - protecting their account. With Multi-Factor Authentication, if an attacker steals your password, they will need your phone or security token to gain access to your account.
