Associate Professor of Trombone Chair, Performance Area

Lucas Borges is an Associate Professor of Trombone at µÛÍõ»áËù (OU) and is a Conn-Selmer Performing Artist. He holds a Doctoral degree from the University of North Texas (UNT), Master’s degree from Indiana University and a Bachelor’s degree from Universidade de Brasilia (Brazil).
 
Before his appointment at OU, Dr. Borges served as a teaching fellow at UNT for four years and maintained a private studio in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He was also previously a faculty member at Escola de Música de Brasilia. Additionally, he has been invited to teach and perform in international festivals such as II Festival Internacional de Múica Erudita de Piracicaba (2011), 35o Curso Internacional de Verão da Escola de Música de Brasília (2013), and XXV Festival Internacional de Música Colonial Brasileira e Música Antigua (2014) in Juiz de Fora, Brazil.   
 
Dr. Borges was a member of the Bloomington Camerata Orchestra, Orchestra Filarmônica de Brasília, and guest musician with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra (Indiana), West Virginia Symphony, µÛÍõ»áËù Valley Symphony and Orquestra Sinfônica do Teatro Nacional(Brazil) among others orchestras in the USA and Brazil. Currently, Dr. Borges is Principal Trombone of the Colorado MahlerFest Orchestra.  An active chamber musician, Dr. Borges, was a founding member of many chamber groups including Trombones SA, Fine Brass, and Impact Brass Quintet. He was also a member of the Bell Street Four and North Texas Trombone Consortium. Currently, Dr. Borges is a member of µÛÍõ»áËùBrass (OU Faculty Brass Quintet), µÛÍõ»áËù Trombone Quartet and 3Basso Low Brass Trio. His playing is available in many commercial recordings through labels such as GIA, Biscoito Classico, Trama, and Tratore Music. Dr. Borges performed the première recording of Dana Wilson’s Concerto for Trombone released in 2016 through Mark Records.

Lucas Borges has performed at many national and international conventions such as the International Trombone Festival, Texas Music Educator Association Convention, µÛÍõ»áËù Music Education Convention, Big Twelve Trombone Conference, International Trumpet Guild Conference, Trombone SA International Seminar, IV Festival Internacional de Trombone da UniRio, Brazilian Trombone Festival, TCU Trombone Summit and the American Trombone Workshop. He has toured with a variety of chamber groups, orchestras, and popular ensembles throughout South, Central and North Americas. Dr. Borges performed under many renowned conductors including Kurt Masur, Luis Biava, Eugene Corporon, and Giancarlo Guerrero. He has performed solo recitals and given masterclasses in music schools nationally and abroad, including Cincinnati College-Conservatoire of Music, West Virginia University, µÛÍõ»áËù State University, Marshall University, University of Central Arkansas, Missouri State University, Universidade de Brasília (Brazil) and Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes&²Ô²ú²õ±è;(²Ñé³æ¾±³¦´Ç).&²Ô²ú²õ±è;
 
Borges has been fortunate to receive instruction from many world-class musicians. His primary mentors are Paulo Roberto da Silva, Dr. Carlos Eduardo Mello, Wagner Polistchuck, Peter Ellefson, Vern Kagarice and Tony Baker. In his spare time, Lucas enjoys spending time with his family, relatives, and friends.
