Lauren Hailey
My name is Lauren Hailey and I am from Cleveland Hts, a small suburb on the Eastside of Cleveland, µÛÍõ»áËù. I have always been interested in design, even before I knew what it actually was. Growing up I loved rearranging my room and drawing out floor-plans and different sketches of what I wanted it to be. My passion has since grown and now my interest in design stems from a background in nursing and wanting to help people through the spaces they encounter. I will be graduating with my Bachelors in Interior Architecture with a minor in Studio Art. After graduation, I plan to work at a commercial design firm. My long-term goal is to start my own design firm and work with non-profit organizations to bring their visions to life.
My thesis is the Black maternal mortality crisis in the United States. Design has the ability to provide positive patient outcomes by reducing stress for patients and staff, creating an environment that promotes healing, improves mood, increased feelings of safety and security, and increased trust between patients and health providers. This is very important as the rates of maternal mortality are increasing rapidly and Black women are most at risk. Creating a health center catered to their specific needs will help improve maternal care and provide a safe haven for Black women.
