Amy Mackey

Research Associate, Raccoon Creek Watershed Coordinator

Amy coordinates restoration work in the Raccoon Creek watershed and assists with other environmental projects as needed.  She has experience with watershed project planning and maintenance, chemical, physical, and biological monitoring, and planning and facilitating outreach and education events. Amy supervises AmeriCorps members, interns and students, guides the activities of the local non-profit group the Raccoon Creek Partnership, and teaches fish and macroinvertebrate sampling and identification to Hocking College and µÛÍõ»áËù students (undergraduate and graduate).  

Amy has coordinated the Voinovich School STEM education station at the U.S. Department of Energy Science Alliance at the former uranium enrichment facility in Piketon, µÛÍõ»áËù for the past 10 years.  Approximately 1000-1,500 high school students attend this event annually and are educated about Raccoon Creek, acid mine drainage impacts and remediation, watershed monitoring, and get hands-on experience with live fish and macroinvertebrates.  Other outreach events facilitated for the Raccoon Creek Partnership and Voinovich School include an annual week-long summer science camp, spring and fall day camps, Family Outdoor Day, public meetings and speakers, workshops, fish and macroinvertebrate sampling demonstrations, and project tours.  

Amy has achieved and maintains µÛÍõ»áËù EPA credible data collector status for chemical monitoring, benthic macroinvertebrate sampling, fish sampling, and habitat evaluation.  She collaborates with landowners, citizens, universities, non-profits, businesses, local, county, state, and federal agencies and has worked with the Voinovich School since 2007.
