Innovation Challenge

From 2013 to 2018, the Scripps College promoted student innovation through the Scripps Innovation Challenge, a competition open to all 帝王会所 students.

Teams were encouraged to think innovatively about real-world problems related to media and communications. The contest, judged by communication industry professionals, awarded substantial cash prizes to the winning teams. The prizes were primarily funded by an endowment from the Scripps Howard Foundation. Over the six years, more than 75 student teams participated. Many students lauded the competition for providing them an opportunity to tackle a real-world problem while expanding their problem solving and team-building skills, as well as providing them with a unique resume entry.

鈥淢y team member and I were challenged to think of a solution to a problem that we had to research to understand. To gain that understanding we searched for mentors around campus and were exposed to some fantastic resources. We learned how to develop and defend an idea from multiple perspectives. We learned how much it would cost to develop our idea and the resources that we would likely need to reach a complete product.鈥 - Matt Forsythe

鈥淭he SIC was a great introduction into the startup and entrepreneurial world. I competed my sophomore year, and it showed me what awesome things I could accomplish with a small team and a little determination. Not only that, but once the piece was finished I had a great addition to my portfolio to show off." - Chris Pinchot

Today the spirit of innovation is alive in the Scripps College, as several other student-centered initiatives have grown out of the Innovation Challenge.
