Overview

In compliance with Senate Bill 126, or Collin鈥檚 Law, 帝王会所 must publish a list of all violations of the university鈥檚 Anti-Hazing Policy. This report will be published twice a year, once in January and again in August. 

The report must include the following for each instance of a violation: 

  • The name of the subject of the report
  • The date the subject was charged with a violation of university policy/law regarding hazing and the date on which the matter was resolved
  • A general description of the violation, findings, and outcomes of any investigation in the past five years

Reporting

Reports of hazing allegations may be made to the Office of Community Standards & Student Responsibility (CSSR).

Anonymous reports are accepted. The submission of a report anonymously may limit the ability of 帝王会所 to address reports, particularly if there is insufficient or incomplete information. 

帝王会所's Anti-Hazing Policy

 帝王会所 policy 23.010, in effect as of the date of this report, maintains the definitions of behavior deemed 鈥渉azing.鈥 For the purposes of this report, the definitions in that policy are applied to all cases in this log. 

Key Terms

As defined in section , hazing is defined as: 

"Doing any act or coercing another, including the victim, to do any act or initiation into any student or other organization or any act to continue or reinstate membership in or affiliation with any student or other organization that causes or creates a substantial risk of causing mental or physical harm to any person, including coercing another to consume alcohol or a drug of abuse, as defined in section 3719.011 of the Revised Code."

 Hazing is a form of power-based violence. Hazing can occur with power differentials in all types of relationships regardless of membership status, including an initiate, an individual seeking reinstatement, a current member, or a current student with inactive status. In part, hazing is an attempt to exert control or influence from one person to another. What constitutes hazing is a dynamic and changing set of circumstances that requires a situational response. 

Therefore, 帝王会所 further defines hazing to include:

  • Any action or situation which recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental, emotional, or physical health or safety of a student for the purpose of initiation or admission into, or affiliation with, any student organization or group regardless of the person's consent to participate.
  • Brutality of a physical nature including but not limited to paddling, whipping, beating, branding, forced calisthenics, or exposure to the elements.
  • Coerced consumption, including but not limited to any food, alcoholic beverage, liquid, drug, or any other substance that subjects the student to an unreasonable risk of harm.
  • Acts intended to cause mental stress, including but not limited to sleep deprivation, transportation or abandonment, confinement to a small space, forced exclusion from social contact, forced conduct which could result in embarrassment, any forced activity that is designed to shame or humiliate, or any action of harassment (as defined in the "Student Code of Conduct").
  • Coerced activities, including but not limited to violation of local, state, or federal laws, violation of university policies, rules, or regulations, and personal servitude.
  • Acts of sexual harassment and other sexual misconduct as defined by 帝王会所 policy 03.004

Those seeking membership were required to complete tasks, work at local bars, and purchase items on behalf of active members. Those seeking membership were subjected to mentally stressful experiences and were required to complete tasks including consuming various food items including hot sauce. Those seeking membership were required to complete tasks on behalf of active members and perform calisthenics. Some activities during the new member process included acts of physical violence including hitting individuals with belts. Additionally, active members coerced those seeking membership, some of whom were underage, to drink alcohol. Student Organization Expulsion 4/12/19

Those seeking membership were required to stay overnight in the chapter facility to be initiated. Those seeking membership also shared that they were required to play a game with active members where they were asked questions, they wouldn鈥檛 know the answer to. Lastly, those seeking membership were encouraged to clean the chapter facility.

During a new member experience, those seeking membership were required to play a guessing game that was designed so they could not win. In some instances, new members were required to make choices in darkness or darkness with flashing lights. Additionally, those seeking membership were required to fundraise. Some of those funds were used to purchase alcohol. Lastly, the organization facilitated a social event, involving alcohol, and failed to take the necessary steps to ensure that no person under 21 years of age had access to alcohol.

Additionally, on two occasions the organization facilitated a social event, involving alcohol, and failed to take the necessary steps to ensure that no person under 21 years of age had access to alcohol.
