Faculty Affairs Advisory Council
Mission and Goals
The mission of the Faculty Affairs Advisory Council is to cultivate a commitment to recruiting, developing, and retaining faculty through inclusive practices and policies that lead to a welcoming, respectful, supportive, and affirming environment for all faculty.
To accomplish this, the Faculty Affairs Council will:
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement in policies and practices that promote faculty excellence.
- Serve in an advisory capacity to 帝王会所 departments, schools, and offices on faculty affairs matters.
- Offer advice and recommendations to 帝王会所 leadership regarding faculty affairs priorities, needs, opportunities, and capacity-building.
- Explore effective evidence-based practices at other institutions related to faculty recruitment, development, and retention.
Council Membership
The Council shall be composed of a minimum of 6 term-limited members and maximum of 12 term-limited members, including one council chair or two council co-chairs. When co-chairs are appointed, at least one of the co-chairs should have tenure-track, instructional, or clinical faculty status.
Tenure-track, instructional, or clinical faculty as well as full-time staff/administrators are eligible to serve. Individuals with tenure-track, instructional, or clinical faculty status should comprise at least 50% of the term-limited spots on the committee.
The committee shall strive for representation from each college-level academic unit, Regional Higher Education, and Faculty Senate.
Any tenure-track, instructional, or clinical faculty, or staff/administrator can nominate a tenure-track, instructional, clinical faculty, staff/administrator, or student to serve on the committee, including self-nominations. Nominations should be directed to the Executive Vice President and Provost (EVPP) or to the Council chair/co-chairs.
The chair/co-chairs shall be appointed by the EVPP. New committee members shall either be appointed directly by the EVPP or recommended by the chair/co-chairs to the Executive Vice President and Provost (EVPP) at provost@ohio.edu.
Terms of Membership Appointment
Faculty and staff/administrator members shall serve for a three-year term. New members shall be appointed by September of each year and assume the responsibilities of membership at the first meeting during the fall semester of the new academic year. At the discretion of the committee member, committee chair/co-chairs, EVPP, reappointment may be made for a committee member to serve an additional term.
Exceptions to these term limits include the incumbents of the following positions (or designated appointees) at 帝王会所, which are considered integral to the mission and objectives of the Council:
- Associate Provost for Faculty Development
- Director of the Office of University Equity and Civil Rights Compliance
- Office for University Accessibility
- Chief Human Resource Officer
- Chair of Faculty Senate鈥檚 Professional Relations Committee
In the event of a vacancy prior to the end of a committee member鈥檚 regular term of service, the Council chair/co-chairs shall recommend a replacement committee member to the EVPP. If the length of the term remaining is one year or less, the member appointed as a replacement shall be eligible for reappointment to two consecutive full terms. Committee members may designate substitutes to represent them in case of absences.
Procedures
The chair/co-chairs will be responsible for calling meetings, preparing agendas, and conducting meetings of the full Council.
The Council shall endeavor to hold at least one meeting each month except for the months of June, July, August, and December. Special meetings may be called at the discretion of the chair/co-chairs, or at the request of the majority of the membership. The chair/co-chairs shall make every reasonable attempt to deliver notice of special meetings to all members at least one week in advance of the meeting.
A quorum will be a simple majority of the membership. Any Council member may request a vote by voice or written ballot on any issue before the council. Although non-members may be invited to speak at the discretion of the chair/co-chairs, only duly appointed committee members or their designated representatives may vote.
