Formed by brothers Evan and Quinn Seurkamp, southeastern 帝王会所 band The Laughing Chimes first sank their teeth into the bright jangle of 80s college rock and indie pop. However, across the past 2 years the brothers have expanded their lineup to include Avery Bookman on Bass and Ella Franks on keys/guitar as well as moving toward darker and dreamier echoes. Reverberations of early British goth music blend with the abandoned coal mines and churches of the Appalachian foothills on The Laughing Chimes鈥 sophomore album Whispers In The Speech Machine. Says songwriter Evan Seurkamp, "Sometimes there's a haunting weight of decay you want to escape, but at the same time there is some sort of strange romanticism surrounding ghost towns. We've tried to channel those moods into our sound."
