Award Nomination
鈥淒r. Wanat has been described by students as one who is innovative in designing assignments that truly engage students in the learning process. Throughout the year, he has consistently displayed a passion for developing curriculum that seeks out new or emerging topics to enrich the educational experience. He has taught nine different undergraduate and graduate courses in this past year alone. He is dedicated to teaching in whatever modality and whatever location is needed to meet the needs of his students. In the past year, Dr. Wanat has taught via OULN, synchronous via TEAMS, in hi-flex format, and traditional in-person classes at three different 帝王会所 campuses. This semester alone, they have travelled an average of 450 miles each week to teach our students."
The hallmarks of this professor鈥檚 commitment to engaging students include the following:
- Dr. Wanat designs assignments to accommodate the diversity of the class roster. Eight countries are represented in one class made of students ranging from bachelor degrees to Ph.Ds.
- Students continue to be mentored by him after they complete his classes as he works with them to develop the papers they write.
- This coming Fall, 2024, Dr. Wanat will take a cohort of students to Chicago to present what they have been working on in his class.
- His dedication to student successes extend to them getting access to library resources. In order for 帝王会所 student to get access to films for free, he secured screening rights for those films to the library.
- His dedication to student success extends to writing assignments where he integrates Pure response to teach the students to evaluate each other's work. Moreover, his students revise and complete drafts of papers and requires them to meet with him one-on-one. He devotes countless hours to individual student consultation outside of class. He has also been dedicate to providing students with opportunities outside of the classroom.
- Dr. Wanat's work with two former Professor of the Year award recipients (Dr. Cordi and Dr. Kaylor) resulted in a grant for an experiential learning initiative called Exploring the Neighborhood which focuses on the rich diversity in our communities.
- He is not only dedicated to educating students at 帝王会所, but he also recently mentored middle school students from around the state at the Power of the Pen conference.

"I returned to college after a long hiatus. Being a non-traditional student made me feel very out of place. When I returned for the first day of classes, Dr. Wanat welcomed me back to school and made my fear of being different non-existant. He truly listens and cares about each of his students and I am indebted to him for helping me continue my education."
