Graduate Student Senate Awards

The Graduate Student Senate (GSS) recognizes the hard work and dedication of our students and faculty through awards. These awards aren't just a pat on the back – they serve a vital purpose in the graduate student experience by showing what can be accomplished through a dedicated servant leader and supportive student body.

Outstanding Faculty Award

2021 Student Award Winners

GSS Senator Emeritus
Amal Shimir

The GSS Senator Emeritus is the most honorable accolade received by a Graduate Student Senate member. The award exemplifies a person who proudly serves and represents graduate students with morality and honor in the University community. This is an award that symbolizes integrity, conscientiousness, and authentic leadership.   
Benefits of Emeritus Senator status include speaking privileges in future GSS meetings (including any executive sessions) and a certificate of thanks on behalf of GSS. This member will serve as a role model and reference for future GSS members.

GSS Distinguished Leader and Service Award
Brett Frederickson

The recipient of this award has helped the graduate community envision the future, identify paths to success, and carry out a vision. This student has exhibited integrity, collaboration, and intellectual, emotional, and social growth. The GSS Distinguished Leader Award benefits include a certificate of thanks on behalf of GSS. 

GSS Outstanding Committee Member
Kylie Jalowiec

The GSS Commissioner Award seeks to recognize the outstanding contributions of Committee members within GSS. This Committee member has actively contributed to GSS during the current academic year. This award is open to both graduating and non-graduating Committee members. GSS New Commissioner Award benefits include a certificate of thanks on behalf of GSS.

Continuing Leadership Award and New Member Award
Nicholas Whitticar

The GSS Continuing Leadership Award seeks to recognize the outstanding contributions of a GSS member who is not graduating in the Spring term of that academic year. The award is given based on peer recommendation.  The GSS Continuing Leadership Award benefits include a certificate of thanks on behalf of GSS.

This member may be anyone who joined the general body during the current academic year and not prior. This award is open to both graduating and non-graduating Committee members.
