Joe Wakeley III
Joe became part of the µÛÍõ»áËù community in August 2001, initially serving as the Assistant Director for the Aquatic Center and Certifications. With over 35 years as a certified Instructor Trainer with the American Red Cross and 20 years as an Instructor with the National Recreation and Parks Association, Joe has a wealth of experience in aquatic and recreational program and facility management. He also led the certification exam rewrite while serving as Chair of the Aquatics Facility Operator course for six years.
In June 2024, Joe transitioned to the Office of Global Opportunities as Assistant Director, Global Security, Health, and Safety. In this role, he brings extensive expertise in risk management and operational readiness. He enjoys supporting students on their educational journey and personal development.
Joe holds an undergraduate degree in Recreational Facility Management from Penn State University and earned his MBA from µÛÍõ»áËù in 2007. His international travels to Kenya, Tanzania, Germany, the Netherlands, Jamaica, and Thailand have deepened his passion for cultural exchange and fostering global student experiences. In his current role, Joe enjoys collaborating with students and faculty in program planning and assisting with risk mitigation efforts. Providing resources and support from planning stages to program completion.
