Why choose us?
The Health Services Administration program is the largest undergraduate program in the Department of Social and Public Health. The program provides students with a solid foundation in business, and a thorough understanding of important contemporary concepts and issues in health care organizations and delivery systems. The skills and principles learned from the program will provide the basic foundation needed for future career success. The program prepares students for entry-level positions in a variety of sectors within the health care industry, including, but not limited to, hospitals, physician practices, managed care organizations, and other emerging health care delivery systems. Additionally, it is excellent preparation for admission into a graduate professional program in health administration, business, or public health.
Our History
The Health Services Administration program originally started in the College of Business during the 1980-1981 academic year. In 1991, recognizing the unique aspects of the health care industry compared to other general businesses and companies, the program moved to the College of Health and Human Services. The program was originally housed in the School of Health and Sport Sciences within the College of Health and Human Services, but was broken out into a separate School of Health Sciences (still within the College of Health and Human Services) in the 1994-1995 academic year. The program remained in this structure until 2008, when the school was renamed the School of Public Health Sciences and Professions. In 2010, when the College of Health and Human Services was reorganized as the College of Health Sciences and Professions, the School of Health Sciences and Professions became the Department of Social and Public Health. Throughout all of those changes, the Health Services Administration program has remained the largest program in the school or department.
