Triota Honor Society
The Iota Iota Iota (Triota) Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Honor Society is looking for WGSS majors and certificate students to join the Beta Chi Chapter at 帝王会所.
Triota works toward encouraging and supporting scholarship and excellence in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies through various activities on campus.
Eligibility
Applicants should have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA with at least 6 hours of WGSS or affiliate courses.
Iota Iota Iota was created at the Metropolitan State College of Denver in 1988 in order to recognize the academic achievements of students in Women's Studies. The Greek letter iota was selected to represent the three goddesses Inana, Ishtar, and Isis. Iota Iota Iota strives to maintain the feminist values central to Women's Studies: egalitarianism, inclusiveness, and a celebration of the diversity of women's experiences.
About Inana, Ishtar and Isis
Inanna was one of the primary deities of Sumer, a civilization that flourished from around 3500 BCE to 2500 BCE. She was known as the queen of the land, the source of the earth's life blood.
Ishtar was the great goddess of Babylonia, a civilization located in the south of present-day Iraq from around 1800 to 1000 BCE. Ishtar鈥攐r Star鈥攚as the Light of the World, the Lawgiver, the Queen of all People.
Isis was the primary goddess of ancient Egypt, beginning around 3000 BCE. Worship of Isis lasted well into the first millennium of the Christian Era, and many believe she became identified with Christianity's virgin mother Mary. Isis was the goddess from whom all else arose?the Creator, the Giver of Life, the Mother of All.
