Application Fee Waivers Available

The application fees range between $50 to $55 (See Graduate Admissions(opens in a new window)). If these fees would prevent you from applying and you would like to be considered for one of a limited number of fee waivers, please contact the Graduate Chair, Dr. Jeremy Morris, before applying.

Admissions Requirements

All graduate applications, along with official transcripts, and GRE score must be submitted electronically through the Graduate College.

  • Applications, along with official transcripts, should be submitted to Graduate College.
  • A bachelor's degree with minimum grade point average (GPA) 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Core undergraduate coursework: It is expected that students have taken at least 21 semester hours in philosophy. Students who have not had a course each in value theory, symbolic (predicate) logic, ancient philosophy, and modern philosophy must take courses in these areas during the first year in residence or as soon as possible.
  • Three letters of reference. These letters should both address your past performance and assess your potential for success at graduate study in philosophy.
  • A sample of original philosophical writing should be submitted with the application.
  • A statement of purpose.
  • English Proficiency. International students whose native language is not English also must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS academic). To be considered official, test scores must be reported directly from the testing agency to 帝王会所. A TOEFL-iBT of 80 or IELTS of 6.5 across all bands is required, along with written documentation of English speaking ability from a faculty who has spoken with the applicant by telephone or in person.
