Recreation and Sport Services

The Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Sport Services degree is offered through 帝王会所鈥檚 Department of Recreation, Sport Pedagogy, and Consumer Sciences. This major provides a broad background in the recreation, sports, health and fitness professions preparing graduates for meaningful employment in the field of sports and recreation. Courses emphasize practical skills in leadership, critical thinking, and creative problem solving within the Liberal Arts tradition, which are also transferrable to a wide range of non-recreation employment opportunities.

Recreation and Sport Services Courses

The Recreation and Sport Services program requires a minimum of 120 hours. Students can tailor this degree toward their personal interests and may be able to complete two minors or a double major.

Complete a minimum of 3 different one-hour courses from any 1000-level PAW offerings.

Complete a minimum of 3 different one-hour courses from any 1000-level REC offerings.

Upper-Level Requirements

Complete a minimum of 6 additional hours at the 3000 or 4000-level from the following subject areas: COED, COMS, HLTH, REC, PETE, PSY, SAM, and SLS.

Minor/Certificate Requirement

Complete a minor or certificate program.

Electives

Complete additional courses to fulfill 120 hours University graduation requirement.

    Potential Careers


    Graduates of this program will be prepared for work in a variety of sport and activity settings. Previous graduates have gained employment with minor league baseball, community recreation and fitness centers, city Parks and Recreation Departments, high school athletics programs and senior living centers.

    • As of 2022, Fitness Trainers and Instructors earn an annual median wage of $45,380 per year.
    • Employment demand for Fitness and Wellness Coordinators in 帝王会所 is projected to grow by 9% by 2032.

Program Admission Requirements

First-Year Students

Anyone who holds a high school diploma or has a GED certificate is eligible for admission to any 帝王会所 regional campus. Regional campuses have a rolling admissions policy which means that students may be admitted anytime during the year. Applicants will be accepted until class begins each semester. However, prospective students are advised to begin the application process as soon as possible so that they may be given important dates and deadlines in a timely manner. Freshmen applicants are encouraged to complete an .

Transfer and Current OHIO Students

You are a transfer applicant if you have completed nine or more semester (12 quarter) hours at another institution after you graduated from high school. If you have completed fewer than nine semester hours, you will apply as a freshman applicant. To apply as a transfer student, applicants are encouraged to complete an .
