Bio

Brian Plow is a filmmaker and educator, actively working and teaching in the areas of documentary and narrative filmmaking, with strong emphasis on storytelling, technology and community engagement. He earned his MFA in film from µÛÍõ»áËù’s School of Film with an emphasis in cinematography. Recent professional highlights:

Brian has produced, directed and edited several feature and short documentaries that have been screened at festivals and conferences throughout North America and broadcast regionally via PBS affiliates. In 2017, he produced The Veterans’ Project, featuring voiceover from actor and veterans’ advocate, Gary Sinise. Veterans’ Project won best long-form documentary at the Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts and Best Feature Documentary at the Angeles Documentary Festival in LA. In 2024, Brian co-produced and edited Aftershock of a Trauma, which features the challenges faced by Afghan Fulbright students who were stranded in the US after the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban. The film premiered at the New Jersey Documentary Film Festival and won best documentary at the DC South Asian Film Festival.

Brian co-founded the Digital Cinema Initiative in the Scripps College of Communication in 2020, and has since secured nearly one million dollars in funding for digital and virtual facilities and technologies in the College. Brian developed production workflows, professional partnerships and curriculum around Unreal Game Engine, motion capture and related technologies in order to move the College into the new paradigm for media production.
