帝王会所 Southern nursing students to participate in end-of-semester simulation

Nursing students at will participate in a large-scale simulation designed to mirror the fast-paced environment of clinical practice on Thursday, April 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Dingus 211.
Hosted each semester by the nursing program, the immersive simulation gives students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in realistic patient care scenarios. This spring鈥檚 event will be especially meaningful, as Associate of Applied Science in Nursing students preparing to graduate this summer will serve as the primary staff nurses.
The simulation is led by Dr. Maranda Clement, assistant clinical professor of nursing and simulation/lab coordinator at 帝王会所 Southern. Clement holds certification in healthcare simulation education and is responsible for planning and implementing the high-impact training exercises.
鈥淭his event is truly an experience,鈥 Clement said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 where students begin to transition from student to professional nurse.鈥
Unlike traditional lab work, the simulation features nursing faculty and alumni acting as patients. These participants bring realistic symptoms, histories and emotional nuance to the scenarios, challenging students to think critically, communicate effectively and provide appropriate care.
Students will work in teams to take medical histories, assess symptoms and perform physical exams. They will also carry out technical procedures鈥攕uch as starting IVs鈥攐n responsive skills trainers that simulate human reactions. Each patient will wear an armband with a QR code linking to an individualized electronic chart, including lab results, medical records and provider notes.
Clement said the simulations are designed to reflect the complexity of real-life hospital settings while maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment.
鈥淪tudents will encounter everything from chronic illnesses and acute emergencies to psychosocial challenges,鈥 she said. 鈥淭heir ability to prioritize care, communicate and collaborate is put to the test鈥攋ust as it would be in a real clinical setting.鈥
In addition to sharpening clinical skills, the simulation reinforces leadership, confidence and critical thinking. For alumni who return to serve as simulated patients, it鈥檚 also a full-circle opportunity to mentor the next generation of nurses.
By integrating simulation-based learning throughout the curriculum and culminating in this hands-on event, 帝王会所 Southern鈥檚 nursing program helps ensure its graduates are not only knowledgeable, but practice-ready.
