OHIO shares Assurance Argument, additional documentation as part of Reaffirmation of Accreditation process

OHIO has shared its Assurance Argument with both the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the University community as part of its ongoing reaffirmation of accreditation process. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to read the materials in preparation for the HLC Comprehensive Evaluation Visit scheduled for March 24-25.

This , along with the University鈥檚 and , is accessible online. Through a combination of narrative and documentary evidence, each document is focused on helping to demonstrate how OHIO鈥檚 academic and programmatic offerings align with each of HLC鈥檚 Criteria for Accreditation

All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to review each of these materials in preparation for the HLC Comprehensive Evaluation Visit scheduled for March 24-25. Please note that the Assurance Argument posted publicly on OHIO鈥檚 website does not allow a reader to open the evidence files, because the evidence is stored within secure software used by HLC.

What is an Assurance Argument?

An Assurance Argument is a written report in which a higher education institution has the opportunity to demonstrate how it meets each Criterion and Core Component within the HLC鈥檚 accreditation process. For each Criterion, the institution provides:

  • An articulation of how each Core Component within the Criterion is met
  • Links to documentary evidence in the institution鈥檚 Evidence File for each articulated claim or argument made.
  • A summary statement that shares the additional ways in which the institution fulfills Criterion that are not otherwise covered in the statements on the Core Components.

OHIO鈥檚 Assurance Filing will be evaluated by a team of peer reviewers with HLC. This team will determine whether each of its required Core Component is 鈥渕et,鈥 鈥渕et with concerns鈥 or 鈥渘ot met.鈥

About OHIO鈥檚 Reaffirmation of Accreditation Process

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) will visit OHIO鈥檚 campus March 24-25 to review the University as part of the ten-year cycle for reaffirmation of accreditation. Accreditation is important in ensuring a high-quality educational experience; OHIO has been continuously accredited through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) since 1913. HLC organizes its review of institutions through five Criteria for Accreditation that cover how the University functions.

The University has shared an overview of OHIO's reaffirmation of accreditation process; additionally, it has provided specific information and guidance for students, faculty and staff. Further reaffirmation of accreditation updates are available online

HLC Open Office Hours Available March 17-21

Those with questions about OHIO鈥檚 Assurance Argument or the HLC Comprehensive Evaluation can attend the HLC Open Office Hours, held virtually through Teams during the week of March 17-21. Links to the Office Hours are posted on the Peer Team Visit Information webpage.

As OHIO鈥檚 reaffirmation of accreditation moves forward, we will keep you updated on the progress of our reaffirmation efforts and opportunities for the University community to share their voices and feedback via ohio.edu/provost/accreditation/reaffirmation.
