Dr. Gillian Ice to return to faculty role July 1 after serving as OHIO's interim associate provost of global affairs

Dr. Gillian Ice will serve as interim associate provost of global affairs until June 30, 2025. After a year-long Faculty Fellowship Leave, she will return to her faculty position in the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and Global Health Initiative in the College of Health Sciences and Professions. Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Donald Leo will convene a task force in fall semester to analyze our international portfolio and conduct a needs assessment.

As interim associate provost, Ice has led several key initiatives, including a comprehensive audit of undergraduate global learning outcomes, a faculty engagement portal to enhance cross-college collaboration and international research partnerships, and alumni engagement in Malaysia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Africa. She led the planning and execution of the Chubu 50th Anniversary celebrations and delegations. She also participated in the Institute for International Education Partnership program in Kazakhstan.

鈥淚 am grateful for Dr. Ice鈥檚 service as interim associate provost during a time of leadership transition at 帝王会所,鈥 said Dr. Donald J. Leo, executive vice president and provost. 鈥淪he has continued to strengthen our partnerships around the globe, advocate for our international students, and connect faculty with global interests.鈥

Ice also serves on several NAFSA and AIEA national committees and was selected for the IIE Partnership Program in Vietnam to expand STEM research partnerships.

Ice, who has held several leadership positions at 帝王会所, founded OHIO鈥檚 Global Health Initiative and served as its director from 2012 to 2022. She also led the international programs for the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

A professor in the Department of Social Medicine in the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, Ice also served as special assistant to the president for public health operations from 2020 to 2022.  In that role, she oversaw non-clinical case management, coordinated the University鈥檚 response to positive COVID-19 cases, and acted as a point of contact for sharing information about public health initiatives within the University community.

In addition, Ice served as an adjunct professor for the Department of Social and Public Health in the College of Health Sciences and Professions and as an adjunct professor of African Studies.

Ice possesses more than 20 years of experience in global research and training at 帝王会所 and has also directed study abroad programs for two decades. In 2018 and 2019, she led a faculty development program for Egyptian scholars.
