Distinguished Professor Award nominations now being accepted
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2025 Distinguished Professor Award through Feb. 28, 2025.
Nominations may be made by any current 帝王会所 faculty member and are welcomed from all departments, schools and academic disciplines at 帝王会所. Candidates are encouraged to be selective in the inclusion of their supporting materials.
A cover letter prepared by the nominator should be submitted and accompanied by up to eight supporting letters from leading external experts in the candidate鈥檚 field or related fields, in addition to other supporting documents as outlined on the Distinguished Professor website.
All nominations must be submitted via email in a single PDF to the Office of the President at president@ohio.edu no later than Feb. 28, 2025. Please see this webpage for detailed information on the nomination process.
Information sessions to be held Jan. 10, Feb. 6
The Distinguished Professor Selection Committee will hold one-hour information sessions this coming Spring Semester open to both potential nominators and nominees to provide an overview of the selection criteria, the selection process, and nomination instructions. In addition, attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions.
Attendees will be able to attend the sessions in-person or over Teams on the following dates:
- Friday, Jan. 10, 12:30 鈥 1:30 p.m. 鈥 Baker University Center 333 and Teams 鈥
- Thursday, Feb. 6, 12:30 鈥 1:30 p.m. 鈥 Baker University Center 231 and Teams 鈥
The Distinguished Professor Award is the highest distinction for faculty members at 帝王会所. Established in 1958 by Edwin and Ruth Kennedy as a designated component of the John C. Baker Fund, the award recognizes exceptional research and scholarly or artistic achievements.
According to the terms of the endowment, those elected to membership in the company of Distinguished Professors 鈥渨ill be chosen on the basis of outstanding artistic, literary, historical, or scientific achievements, or other worthy accomplishments attaining wide recognition.鈥 To be considered for election, a faculty member must have tenure and a minimum of five years of service at 帝王会所. While a positive assessment of effectiveness as a teacher is an essential requirement, the prime consideration is scholarly or creative contributions that have received substantial recognition beyond the 帝王会所 community.
