OHIO faculty invited to apply to CTLA Summer AI-enhanced Course Redesign Institute
µÛÍõ»áËù faculty who are interested in exploring the ways generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be infused into a course -- topically, as an instructional strategy or as a significant support for student achievement of course learning outcomes -- are invited to apply to be part of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment’s Summer 2024 AI-enhanced Course Redesign Institute.
This institute is designed to extend CTLA AI-related development offerings and support faculty representing a variety of disciplines. The courses developed in this institute will serve as models for other implementation, as well as pilots for innovative approaches to teaching with AI.
The institute experience will take place in June and July. It will be offered in person/synchronously and asynchronously with a purposefully designed set of experiences that support robust course redesign and immersion into AI as it relates to the faculty member’s discipline. Institute participants can expect to commit the equivalent of four hours per week to the work.
After completing the institute, faculty will have:
- A redesigned syllabus to transparently present AI policies, goals and outcomes.
- An implementation plan for integrating AI into their courses as a topic or set of activities for skillset development, enhancement to the course (through tutoring, for example) or innovative content delivery.
- A full course calendar reflecting that implementation plan.
- AI activity, assignment, and assessment materials.
- An assessment plan that includes evaluating the effectiveness or impact of the new enhancement/innovation.
Required preparatory work for the in-person/synchronous meetings will include readings on AI and teaching and learning, platform experimentation and exploration, digital resource review, and submission of course components.
Faculty completing the institute will deliver the redesigned course during the fall semester. They will also be asked to submit an assessment report/portfolio documenting the implementation.
Given the extended commitment to planning, development and implementation, faculty completing the institute will receive a $500 stipend, with an additional $500 upon submission of the implementation and assessment report.
Full-time tenured, tenure-track, instructional and clinical faculty may apply to be a part of the institute. Up to 12 participants will be selected. The
As part of the application, faculty will be asked for information about the course they plan to redesign (how often taught, average enrollment etc.), their current experience with generative AI (all levels of experience are welcome), and how they imagine AI might enhance their teaching or their students’ learning. Finally, a letter of support (from teaching team lead, program director or department chair/associate dean/dean) should be concurrently submitted.
Applications are due at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1.
