College of Fine Arts announces the 2023 Alternatives’ biennial in the Art Gallery
The Alternatives’ 2023 international biennial juried photo show, “Image as Object,” features a range of image-making practices under the umbrella of photography. The show is currently on display at the Art Gallery and will culminate with a closing reception and artist talk by the juror, artist Deborah Orloff, at Mitchell Auditorium in Seigfred Hall on Thursday, Feb. 16, starting at 5 p.m.
The exhibition, which sought submissions that considered the ‘objectness’ of photography, features the work of 41 juror-selected artists. Each piece explores the artist’s thematic interpretation, the physical manifestation of that which can’t otherwise be pinned down — the tangible in the intangible.
The exhibition features artists working broadly within the spectrum of image-based media, including conventional and non-traditional photographic processes, moving images and installations.
Exhibiting artists are: Bekah Alviani, Federica Armstrong, Carmelo Amenta, Lynn Bierbaum, Jessica Buie, Savannah Calhoun, Yiyun Chen, Travis Dodd, Sharon Draghi, Jeff Evans, Lalana Fedorschak, Jon Feinstein, Paul Gravett, Liam Kalae Keanini, Daniel J. King, Anton Kuehnhackl, Anastasiia Kulikalova, Veronica Leto, Jesse Ly, Mara Magyarosi-Laytner, Candice Marie Inc, Nathan Matteson and Barbara Raid, Allen Morris, Ania Moussawel, Marcus Newton, David Ondrik, Christine Osinski, Hattie Phillips, Katie Prock, Marshall Ransfield, Enrique Rosas, Mark Schoon and Casey McGuire, Hyacinth Schukis, Sue Palmer Stone, JP Terlizzi, Cara Lee Wade, Nicholas Warndorf, Simone Wicca and Morgan Ford Willingham.
