Keeping Bobcats Informed, Sept. 22, 2022

Bobcat Parents & Families,

Last weekend, we welcomed over 2000+ alumni back to campus for our largest yet — a triennial tradition celebrating a community and individual Bobcats who have made remarkable contributions to the institution, their communities and fields, and society. Thank you to all who were able to join us in the celebration.

It feels like you were just here for move-in, and yet  is already upon us. In addition to having your student show you their new setup, you can enjoy comedy, football, hikes, food, and all campus and Athens have to offer together. I hope to see you all this weekend.

To continue the streak of celebratory weekends, I want to remind you that is less than two weeks away! Check out all the  happening and make your plans to come home or join us virtually from yours.

See you soon!

Best,

Kathy Fahl, MSW

Dean of Students

Be Kind to Your Mind

Let's debunk mental health stigmas

Judgments usually stem from a lack of understanding. How can you educate yourself and those around you to prioritize mental health?

Accept yourself – your mental health will fluctuate throughout your life. You may experience shame or self-doubt as you recognize that you need help. This is normal, but you have the power to reduce self-judgment.

Separate identity from condition – you are not your illness. Instead of saying, "I am depressed," consider rephrasing to, "I am experiencing depression." This small reframing method can help you see yourself outside of your current situation.

Seek community – whether you join a , , or , you need to surround yourself with voices who understand you.
