Campus Recycling and OHIO Athletics to host Rufus Recycling Days this fall

Several 帝王会所 groups have been working together to plan Rufus Recycling Days for the fall semester.

The Athletics-Sustainability Working Group, Campus Recycling, the Office of Sustainability, and administrators and student-athletes from have been meeting to plan these events.

Each sport has a designated game during its season that will be a 鈥済reen game.鈥 To make the games more sustainable, volunteers will act as 鈥渂in goalies鈥 to make sure that waste is properly disposed of. Guests will be directed to recycle their cans, paper, and plastics and compost any food waste in the correct bins throughout the stadium.

During halftime, there will be various environmental-themed games that the crowd can participate in. Also, Campus Recycling and the Office of Sustainability will have tables where students and community members can learn about how the groups work to make 帝王会所 clean, beautiful, and of course, sustainable.

The first Rufus Recycling Day will be for soccer and is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 25.

As a dedicated 鈥減layer for the planet鈥 senior soccer player Regan Berg said she is thrilled to be a part of this new initiative. Berg shared that 鈥減laying for a Green Game makes the fight for a win on the field so much more fun knowing that you鈥檙e playing for better education and involvement in keeping our world safe and clean! I hope to see everyone in our community there as we build more relationships to better our planet.鈥

Here is the fall schedule for Rufus Recycling Days:

  • Soccer: Sunday, Sept. 25
  • Field Hockey: Sunday, Oct. 9
  • Football: Saturday, Oct. 22
  • Volleyball: Wednesday, Nov. 16

鈥淥ur partnership with the Office of Sustainability and Campus Recycling is a win-win for all involved. The work is impactful and the teamwork is exceptional.  We are excited to host Rufus Recycling Days at our games and we are pleased to be part of the sustainability and recycling solution here on campus,鈥 said Michael Stephens, senior associate athletics director for external operations.

Everyone involved in planning Rufus Recycling Day is looking forward to making another sector of the University more sustainable.

Joanna Sokol, zero waste and recycling coordinator, said it鈥檚 鈥渧ery exciting to see all our collaboration and hard work between the different groups come together. I feel that these will be fun events to get the community involved and educate everyone how to be more sustainable on campus and in the community, while supporting our Bobcats!鈥
