2022 Virtual Diversity Leadership Institute set for April 13
帝王会所鈥檚 Division of Diversity and Inclusion will host the fourth annual Diversity Leadership Institute virtually via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday, April 13, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
This year鈥檚 theme is Anti-Bias Education, and the Division of Diversity and Inclusion is partnering with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to offer featured speakers who will focus on this topic. The event will also include advanced beginner and intermediate/advanced level anti-bias training workshops for members of the campus community.
鈥淓ach year the Division of Diversity and Inclusion hosts the Diversity Leadership Institute to bring together members of campus and surrounding communities to share, learn, and rigorously explore salient diversity, equity, and inclusion topics. This year鈥檚 topic, Anti-Bias Education, is particularly salient given the call for expanded education and understanding of anti-bias strategies at OHIO,鈥 said Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion Dr. Gigi Secuban.
The three -hour workshops (with a 30-minute break) will offer a deep dive into anti-bias strategies. Institute participants will be able to choose from either an advanced beginner or intermediate/advanced level workshop, and all members of the University community are encouraged to take advantage of this important professional development opportunity. The featured speakers for the day will be Dr. Lara Trubowitz and Tabari Coleman.
Dr. Trubowitz is the associate director of the Anti-Defamation League's National College and University Programs, and education director for the Anti-Defamation League鈥檚 Midwest region. In these dual roles, she coordinates bias incident response and anti-bias/diversity and equity training for colleges and universities, K-12 school districts, workplaces, and municipalities, focusing in particular on white supremacist trends. Along with Elissa Buxbaum, she is the primary architect of ADL鈥檚 campus Hate/Uncycled program.
Mr. Coleman, is a diversity training consultant and social justice advocate, with over 20 years of experience, known for his thoughtful but direct approach to facilitating dialogue sessions that focus on building empathy. Both Dr. Trubowitz and Mr. Coleman will provide context for anti-bias work in the higher education setting.
