Patton College visiting professor receives award for book on refugees and higher education

Lisa Unangst, visiting assistant professor in the Patton College of Education鈥檚 Department of Counseling and Higher Education, has been honored with an award from the Comparative International Education Society (CIES) for a book on which she served as lead editor. received honorable mention in the CIES best book awards.

The CIES Jackie Kirk Award annually honors a published book that reflects one or some of the varied areas of expertise represented in Jackie Kirk鈥檚 areas of commitment鈥攑rimarily gender and education and/or education in conflict (fragile states, post-conflict, peace education).

鈥淩efugees and Higher Education鈥 provides a cross-disciplinary lens on one American university鈥檚 approach to studying the policies, practices, and experiences associated with the higher education of refugee background students. The focus is not only on refugee education as an issue of access and equity, but also on this phenomenon as seen through the lens of internationalization.

Unangst  and all award winners will be honored at the April annual meeting of CIES.
