Poggione appointed Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education

Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Sayrs announced the appointment of Dr. Sarah Poggione as vice provost for undergraduate education. Poggione currently serves as an associate dean in the College of Arts & Sciences at and is a professor of political science. Poggione will transition into the vice provost role during the 2021-2022 academic year and begin full time in May 2022. 

"Sarah has displayed outstanding leadership throughout the pandemic. As co-chair of the curriculum coordinators group, she has helped us respond to rapidly changing conditions. I am grateful for her ability to engage faculty members in developing creative solutions for course design and delivery, as well as her ability to solve complex scheduling and logistical challenges,” Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Sayrs said. “Her breadth of knowledge about the diverse arts and sciences disciplines will enable her to lead initiatives that further enhance our academic quality and student experience.” 

Poggione has significant academic leadership experience. A faculty member in political science since 2009, she served as department chair for two years. As associate dean for students, instruction, and curriculum in the College of Arts & Sciences, she oversees the student services office, chairs the college curriculum committee, coordinates assessment activities, and engages in strategic planning for the college. She has led the college’s implementation of the new General Education curriculum and Guarantee Plus Graduation Plan. Before coming to OHIO, she was a faculty member in the Department of Politics and International Relations at Florida International University and Franklin Fellow in the Political Science Department at the University of Georgia.

The vice provost for undergraduate education serves as a member of the executive vice president and provost’s senior staff and supports the undergraduate experience across all campuses. The vice provost assists colleges with strategic undergraduate program offerings and outcomes by helping faculty to develop, evaluate, and assess programs and by partnering with colleagues across the university to support student success initiatives to improve retention, persistence, and graduation rates with an emphasis on equitable outcomes.
