Over the peak of Move-In 2021, Bobcats moving onto campus are anticipated to recycle over 40,000 pounds of cardboard and other materials in just four days.

鈥淢ove-In is the largest influx of cardboard we will see all year and it is 100% recyclable. Depending on the time of day, students will see literal mountains of cardboard,鈥� said 帝王会所 Recycling and Zero Waste Manager Andrew Ladd. 鈥淛ust empty your box, break it down and add it to the mountain.鈥�

The previous record of 39,600 pounds was set in 2019.

On campus, each resident鈥檚 room is equipped with a blue bin to collect the mixed bottles, cans, paper and cardboard that students recycle throughout the year. Additionally, in the weeks leading up to move-in, large containers to collect Styrofoam as well as signs for overflow cardboard pop up across campus. 

Unfortunately, plastic wrap and plastic bags are not accepted at this time and should be placed in the landfill dumpsters.

鈥淲e are always encouraging new and returning students to get involved in the growing 鈥榞reen鈥� culture, beginning with move-in,鈥� said Ella Shroll, president of the Bobcats Go Green student organization. 鈥淔or example, along with recycling, Athens is home to many thrift stores; consider checking out a few locations before purchasing brand-new clothing and furniture.鈥� 

Off campus, Athens-Hocking Recycling Center collects mixed stream recycling curbside within the city of Athens and at select dumpsters located in the uptown area. Since some apartment complex landlords do not provide recycling opportunities, 帝王会所 allows for mixed-stream recycling drop-off between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Campus Recycling鈥檚 Building 34 on The Ridges, located at 154 South Ridge Drive.
