Meet IHS department chair and faculty, Tobe Gillogly.
Gillogly started her journey at OHIO as an adjunct in 2000 and was then hired on as a part-time physical therapy assistant to µÛÍõ»áËù Therapy Associates (OUTA) in 2003. While working as an adjunct at OHIO, she also taught and was a clinical coordinator at Hocking College for the PTA program. In 2014, she accepted a full-time assistant clinical professor position through RCS in CHSP which enabled her to treat pediatric patients with OUTA while developing and instructing courses in IHS and assisting in DPT courses. In 2017, the chair of IHS left OHIO and she moved into the program coordinator position for the BSIHS. In 2018, she was given the opportunity to be chair of IHS and worked to revamp the four graduate certificates, assisted in the development of the MIHS, worked with the µÛÍõ»áËù Alliance, has implemented interprofessional education courses and workshops for the college, and in 2020 welcomed medical assistant technology into IHS.
Learn more about Gillogly below:
How does your past or current professional life impact the way you teach IHS courses, and vice versa?
It is extremely important to me that I continue to treat pediatric patients and teach courses, along with being chair, so that I do not lose perspective but in fact take all pieces into consideration. I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with an amazing team in IHS and to have the opportunity to be a part of our students’ educational journey. After teaching in the classroom for 12 years making the transition to online was a challenge but now, I have the opportunity to do both and I know the value of both forms of education delivery.
What activities do you enjoy outside of work?
I go to my son's basketball games and enjoy spending time with my family. In my former life, I danced professionally, so I dance when I can, and absolutely love teaching dance to little ones at Factory Street in Athens. I also like going to the beach and try to make one trip a year there with my husband and son.
What are some words of wisdom you would like to share with the students?
We live in a complicated world and it is essential for all of us to contribute positively in some way to make a difference in someone's life. Find the joy in the small things, be accountable, recognize how blessed you are and be aware that your words and your actions speak volumes about you as a person.
