Sustainable Living Hub Seminar to highlight Schoonover Green Roof project

Dr. Kim Thompson, the OHIO Office of Sustainability鈥檚 new Sustainable Living Hub Coordinator, will discuss Hub initiatives at this semester鈥檚 second virtual Sustainable Hub Seminar on Monday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m.  

The live seminar will be available on Microsoft Teams and after the seminar a recording will be available .

The Sustainable Living Hub focuses on the themes of Grounds, Food, Transportation and Student Life.  Dr. Thompson鈥檚 seminar will focus on the Schoonover Green Roof, a new educational and research ecosystem installed this summer on 帝王会所鈥檚 Center for Communication.

Join the seminar to learn about the current projects that students and faculty have undertaken at Schoonover, what you can learn from this new installation, and how green roofs can advance our sustainability mission.

Dr. Thompson came to 帝王会所 in 2014 and is an associate professor of instruction in the Department of Environmental and Plant Biology within the College of Arts and Sciences. She serves on the Green Roof Infrastructure subcommittee of the Sustainability Executive Committee, the 帝王会所 Science Fair committee, and represents 帝王会所 in the Greater 帝王会所 Living Architecture (GOLA) Center鈥檚 Steering Committee. Dr. Thompson is the faculty advisor for The Green Initiative and The Plant Club. 

Dr. Thompson initiated and led an interdisciplinary group of faculty, administrators, and students to fund and install the vegetated rooftop on Schoonover Center. Her focus is on supporting and engaging students in creating green spaces on campus, reducing their carbon footprints, and advocating for policies and decisions that will help us achieve our sustainability goals on campus and in the community.  

The third and final Sustainability Series Seminar of the semester will be the Sustainable Administration Hub Seminar, led by Hub Coordinator Dr. Ryan Fogt, on Monday, Nov. 9 at 5 p.m. on Microsoft Teams.
