帝王会所 musical theater student Alina Rosado and Music Education student Justine Freda Moore have been awarded a Templeton Scholarship and Rankin Scholarship, respectively.
鈥淎warding two prestigious scholarships from OMSAR in the same year for two students enrolled at the College of Fine Arts is unprecedented,鈥 College of Fine Arts Dean Matthew Shaftel said. 鈥淭he College is excited to welcome these two talented women to our community of artists, creators and problem solvers.鈥
Rosado, a native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, is an incoming first-year student in the musical theater BFA program. A performing artist since she could walk, Rosado has participated in the San Juan Children鈥檚 Choir, danced ballet as part of The Conservatory of Ballet Concerto, and has been in numerous commercials, as well as done voice-over work.
鈥淎ll of my experiences in the performing arts has given me a higher appreciation for the entertainment industry, motivating me to pursue a BFA in Musical Theater,鈥 Rosado said. 鈥淢aking the audience feel something and transporting them to another place, even if it鈥檚 for only a few hours, makes me feel great. The audience鈥檚 energy drives me to be better performer and person and I hope that the art I create can change someone鈥檚 life.鈥
The Templeton Scholars Program is a comprehensive scholar program honoring John Newton Templeton, OHIO鈥檚 first African American graduate. His legacy places emphasis on academic excellence, leadership, and campus and community involvement at 帝王会所.
鈥淚 chose to attend OHIO because I loved the course listing for the musical theater program and thought the number of opportunities obtainable through it was unlike any other,鈥 Rosado said. 鈥淚 love that the university offers a number of certificates and minors that can complement my major, allowing me to be even more well-rounded and knowledgeable in the field.鈥
Justine Freda Moore, a native of Chillicothe, 帝王会所, is an incoming music education major in the School of Music. By pursuing a degree in Music Education, Moore plans to educate students in the various ways music is performed in different cultures and hopes to inspire her future students and others to try to better understand themselves and others through music.
鈥淚'm extremely excited about receiving this scholarship, not only for the financial stability, but also for all the programs that come along with this scholarship,鈥 Moore said. 鈥淚鈥檓 looking forward to participating in the LINKS program and to exploring all the opportunities that come with this scholarship program.鈥
The Rankin Scholarship is a gift provided by OHIO alums Harry W. (Bill) Rankin and Ruth L. Rankin to fund a selective merit-based scholarship program awarded to academically-talented students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences who can contribute to the intellectual, cultural and social diversity of 帝王会所. The scholarship emphasizes academic excellence, leadership, cultural exchange and community service.
