Poet, teaching artist to speak at African Studies Spring Lecture
帝王会所 will welcome poet Tjawangwa Dema to campus on Friday, April 12 for the African Studies Spring Lecture.
The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will focus on the topic of 鈥淎 Poetics of Enquiry: Noticing and Writing the World.鈥 The lecture will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Walter Hall Room 235.
Dema is a Motswana poet, educator and arts administrator. Her collection 鈥淭he Careless Seamstress鈥 (University of Nebraska Press, 2019) won the Sillerman First Book Prize for African Poetry. Her chapbook 鈥淢andible鈥 (Slapering Hol Press, 2014) was selected for the African Poetry Book Fund鈥檚 New-Generation African Poets series.
She has an MA in Creative Writing from Lancaster University and has given readings and taught workshops in more than 20 countries. Her poems have been translated into languages including Spanish, Chinese, German and Swedish. She lives in the UK and works as a writer and literary events producer.
