Graduating students from OHIO鈥檚 School of Dance present new choreography in annual spring concert

帝王会所鈥檚 School of Dance presents the annual spring senior dance concert, the culminating project for B.F.A. dance majors, presented at 7 and 9 p.m. Friday, April 12, with a matinee at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13. The dance concert will be held at the Shirley Wimmer Dance Theatre in Putnam Hall.

This spring, five seniors employ their unique perspectives in newly created choreographic works, performed by individuals or groups, presented together in a coordinated concert event. The dance concert is a highlight of the students鈥 year-long capstone projects.

The concert will include the following choreographed works:

  • A solo dance work, 鈥渨hat it is,鈥 choreographed by Kelsee Booker, reminisces on the times when we find ourselves having to 鈥済o with the flow.鈥 Through the sound of rhythmic blues coupled with sensual, dynamic movements that reflect the soul, we are reminded to find the best of every situation and that life is what it is.
  • 鈥淔reedom to feel,鈥 a solo piece choreographed and performed by Chloe Carpenter, mines emotional vulnerability experienced when falling in love. The words euphoria, endangerment and exhaustion transform personal experiences into felt movement performed in 鈥渇reedom to feel.鈥
  • The work 鈥渋n saturation,鈥 a group piece of nine performers choreographed by Becca McNay, reflects on femininity through a lighthearted lens. Based in nuanced movement partnered with sound by percussionist Morgan Seig, 鈥渋n saturation鈥 explores how clarity and structure convey a sense of humor alongside mystery.
  • Rachel Larkin鈥檚 group dance 鈥渨hat lies beneath us鈥 is inspired by an ant colony鈥檚 ability to work together and accomplish tasks paired with Paganini鈥檚 鈥淐aprice for Solo Violin No. 4.鈥
  • 鈥淚nside out,鈥 choreographed and performed by Emily Vizina, expresses the sensation and life of the inner workings of the body and facilitates conversation between organs, thoughts and emotions through felt experiences and internal analytics. A tuning radio plays in the background as the dancer attempts to find clarity.

General admission is $8 per ticket and students are free with a valid OHIO student ID, made possible through support from arts for OHIO. Tickets can be purchased at the Templeton-Blackburn Memorial Auditorium box office.
