Applications for pilot course design studio due February 13

Reinforcing President Nellis鈥檚 strategic priority to seek a more robust OHIO Online Engaged Learning enterprise, the Office of Instructional Innovation (OII) offers support to faculty interested in teaching online by providing current tools and strategies, as well as course design and redesign.
To help faculty create more effective online learning environments, OII is hosting a Design Studio for Online and Blended Courses in February 2019. This studio will be provided in a new pilot format that includes three phases:
- Initial session鈥擣ebruary 27, 9:00 a.m.鈥12:00 p.m.
- Consultative sessions鈥攑lanned individual consultation sessions (two to three meetings)
- Self-paced 鈥溍 la carte鈥 modules鈥攃overing various topics of interest that can be joined on a drop-in basis
鈥淭he new format is designed to precisely focus on essential components a faculty member will need to produce a rapid and effective course design,鈥 said Patrick Mose, instructional designer in OII.
Participants will experience a hands-on, intensive workshop with individual assistance and consultation, group discussions, and sharing opportunities. Following this initial session, faculty can plan two to three individual meetings with the instructional designers for one-on-one consultations.
鈥淥ur design studios always foster a dynamic community of practice,鈥 said Jeff Kuhn, instructional designer in OII. 鈥淔aculty from widely different subject areas will often spark new ideas in one another and I鈥檓 looking forward to the ideas we will get this time around.鈥
The instructional designers also will offer self-paced modules as needed. By the end of these sessions, faculty will be able to apply effective design techniques to create a course that focuses on alignment to their course goals, use interactive tools to facilitate discussions and foster a sense of community, and find and develop multimedia that enhance their students鈥 learning experiences.
Those interested in attending should by Wednesday, February 13. If selected to attend, applicants will be contacted by Wednesday, February 20. Space is limited to 9鈥12 participants.
