In a county with higher than average instances of heart disease and lower than average density of fitness facilities, Athens County residents are in need of increased wellness support and facilities. 帝王会所 seeks to fill that need and encourages employees and area residents to explore the diverse services and recent upgrades available at 帝王会所鈥檚 wellness center, WellWorks. 

鈥淭he community atmosphere has always been a draw for WellWorks members,鈥� said Steve Clusman, WellWorks鈥� fitness center coordinator. In addition to traditional fitness services, massage therapy, employee wellness and nutrition counseling, Clusman stressed that WellWorks seeks to stay on top of fitness trends by offering new programs and fitness classes as our members鈥� interest dictates. 

As an initiative of the College of Health Sciences and Professions, WellWorks aims to support the wellness goals of employees and community members while serving the academic mission of the University. Through fitness memberships, personal training, nutrition counseling, body composition assessments, wellness coaching, massage therapy and a variety of special events throughout the year, WellWorks provides the region with much-needed wellness services at reasonable prices. Staffed, partially, by student employees, members also have the opportunity to engage with budding professionals who are gaining hands-on professional experiences. 

Jenn Bennett, director of WellWorks, suggests that while most employees are aware of the fitness center and employee wellness program, Healthy OHIO, many have outdated visions of WellWorks鈥� offerings.

鈥淲ellness is a journey that is made possible by a supportive and energizing environment,鈥� Bennett explains. 鈥淣ot only have we revitalized the facility, we have also been working to support our members by offering engaging member experiences.鈥�

Bennett explained that such experiences are a primary focus of WellWorks鈥� student employees, who receive training on fostering a community of wellness. 

Clusman noted that over half of the cardio equipment at WellWorks is brand new within the last two years, 鈥渁nd 69 percent of the equipment is either new or refurbished.鈥� 

In fact, in the few years since Clusman and Bennett have been overseeing WellWorks and its facilities, the group fitness spaces have been completely renovated, new flooring installed and a variety of equipment upgrades have occurred, including, but not limited to the acquisition of:

Most recently, over the Thanksgiving closure, WellWorks鈥� Fitness Center underwent a painting project that also included the installation of new televisions and mirrors. WellWorks has built in constant upgrades to equipment and fitness class offerings into their annual budgeting and program planning efforts, giving WellWorks a more competitive edge in recent years. 

鈥淚 confess that it had been a few years since I had been in the facility,鈥� said WellWorks鈥� newest employee, Annie Laurie Cadmus. 鈥淚 had let my membership lapse. But, now that I have seen the new group fitness spaces and all of the upgraded equipment, I鈥檓 kicking myself for not renewing my membership sooner.鈥� 

Cadmus encourages employees to stop by the space in Grover Center (Suite E124) and request a tour.
