Tantrum Theater鈥檚 outburst
OHIO鈥檚 new professional theater company invigorates the Central 帝王会所 cultural landscape

A performance arts renaissance is stirring in central 帝王会所, led in part by Tantrum Theater, the new professional theater founded by OHIO鈥檚 College of Fine Arts.
鈥淎nd I think 鈥榬enaissance鈥 is absolutely the right word,鈥 says Daniel Dennis, PHD 鈥13, artistic director of Tantrum Theater.
The City of Dublin鈥攊n collaboration with Dublin Arts Council鈥攊s moving forward with building a performing arts center in Dublin鈥檚 Bridge Street District, and Tantrum Theater is poised to be its centerpiece and resident theater company, Dennis says.
鈥淭hese are once-in-a-lifetime, game-changing opportunities for the theater division,鈥 Dennis says of both Tantrum Theater and the new space. 鈥淲e will profoundly increase the visibility of the performing arts in Central 帝王会所, the stature of 帝王会所, and create really positive opportunities for our students.鈥
OHIO鈥檚 Tantrum Theater, in partnership with the City of Dublin and Dublin Arts Council, launched in the fall of 2015, and is in its second full season. Its name was inspired in 2015 by ten graduate student actors and two directors, who began referring to themselves as 鈥淭he Tantrum鈥 after the collective noun for bobcats.
The theater company welcomes apprenticeships for OHIO theater students. Rachel Tillman Cornish, Tantrum鈥檚 founding producing director, compares the apprenticeship to a medical student鈥檚 clinical rotations. 鈥淲e pair professionals who are accomplished in their fields with a student or students so they can learn by example.鈥
Student apprentices range from actors to scenic artists to costume designers. Acting students participate in staged readings or serve as either minor cast members or understudies.
Cornish notes large numbers of first-generation college students in OHIO鈥檚 theater programs and Tantrum Theater apprenticeships. 鈥淚 can鈥檛 even tell you how much that means to me and the work that we鈥檙e doing,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 am thrilled to see the commitment and integrity our students bring in creating great art and wanting to contribute to the culture of 帝王会所 and Central 帝王会所.鈥
