Actor Musicianship: Theater Focus Certificate

Program Overview

There is a significant demand in the professional theater world, on Broadway and beyond, for performers that combine great acting technique with professional-level musicianship. Sharing the principles of the Theater BFA in Performance core with the technique and applied skills of the School of Music programs, this program will focus on skill acquisition in both areas, as well as synthesizing these skills together in an actor musician workshop.

The Actor Musicianship: Theater Focus Certificate can be completed in 24 hours and is designed primarily for existing music majors who wish to develop the necessary skills for actor musicianship outside their major of study. Performance opportunities within the School of Theater are also possible. 

Admissions Information

Freshman/First-Year Admission

Admission to the Actor Musicianship Certificate program is by interview and audition only. Upon successful admission, certificate paperwork should be initiated by the student at the School of Theater Office or the College of Fine Arts Deans Office.

Actor Musicianship Certificate graduates have the skill set necessary to craft vivid and specific acting performances in any medium. Their musicianship and performance skills will allow them to perform at the professional level required of first-class performance venues and opportunities.They are prepared with the business acumen and audition skills that will ready them to complete for entry-level professional acting work. Other possibilities include prepares students to pursue advanced graduate degree programs in performance, to engage in professional performance activities, or to establish private teaching studios.
