Outstanding Leadership

Charles J. Ping International Leadership Award

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) created this award in 2010 to recognize outstanding leadership by an international student enrolled at µÛÍõ»áËù. This award is named for President Emeritus Charles J. Ping, president of µÛÍõ»áËù from 1975-1994, to honor his support for international education and exchange. President Emeritus Ping's leadership resulted in the expansion of international education at µÛÍõ»áËù. In 2016, a second category was added to recognize leadership and contributions to the international community by students who are not in F-1 or J-1 nonimmigrant status.

Kerrigan Family Scholarship

The Kerrigan Family Scholarship was created by the Kerrigan Family in 2012 to provide financial support to any student with a demonstrated financial need. The recipient must be involved in leadership activity within the µÛÍõ»áËù community and/or the Athens, µÛÍõ»áËù community.

Outstanding Graduate Student Leader

Doctoral Level

The Outstanding Graduate Student Leader Award will be awarded to a Doctoral graduate student for outstanding leadership in extracurricular activities and/or community service. All Doctoral graduate students with a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA are eligible.  A student may be the recipient of this award once during their tenure at µÛÍõ»áËù.

Masters Level

The Outstanding Graduate Student Leader Award will be awarded to a Masters graduate student for outstanding leadership in extracurricular activities and/or community service. All Masters graduate students with a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA are eligible.  A student may be the recipient of this award once during their tenure at µÛÍõ»áËù.

Outstanding Senior Leader Award

The Outstanding Senior Leader Awards will be presented to up to seven µÛÍõ»áËù seniors for outstanding leadership during their collegiate careers. The Outstanding Senior Leader Awards are cumulative awards and are meant to recognize a collegiate record of leadership and service to the University and/or Athens communities. All full-time undergraduate students with senior standing and a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA are eligible. Up to seven students may be the recipients of the Outstanding Senior Leader Award once during their tenure at µÛÍõ»áËù.

John Newton Templeton

The Outstanding Senior Leader – John Newton Templeton Award will be presented to one µÛÍõ»áËù senior in honor of the first African American student to graduate from µÛÍõ»áËù in 1828. This is a cumulative award and is meant to recognize a collegiate record of leadership, including significant contributions to the life of African American students on campus. All full-time undergraduate students with senior standing and a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA are eligible.

Rudy Leadership Award

This award, instituted in 1986, is the result of the contribution of Joel S. and Marlene Rudy. The proceeds of their contribution are used to reward and recognize the exceptional leadership contributions, ability and potential of a currently enrolled undergraduate student who plans to be in attendance at µÛÍõ»áËù during the entire upcoming academic year. All undergraduate students on the Athens campus who have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA at µÛÍõ»áËù and are either first year, sophomore or junior standing are eligible.

Alumni Relations Leaving a Legacy Award

Recipient must be a junior entering their senior year who has distinguished themself by demonstrating the capacity for leadership, commitment to community and institutional service, and a concentration on academic excellence. Recipient should have a diverse history of organizational involvement at µÛÍõ»áËù, including key leadership roles and commitment. Also, recipient should show a commitment to the graduating class by involvement demonstrated previously and promise for the future. The recipient must also show a pattern of commitment to µÛÍõ»áËù that will be carried on by active involvement as an alum.

Please provide a personal narrative outlining your commitment to the class of 2025, and how you will carry forward that commitment during your senior year and as an OHIO alum.

OHIO Online Community Award 

Established for students enrolled in online programs, but open to all who work to create a sense of belonging with other students, faculty, and staff.  Emphasis from the committee is given to students who have created a sense of community and belonging in the online program environment. Applicants/Nominees should highlight any specific groups/initiatives created along with the outcomes.
