(B6) Rethinking Imposter Syndrome: From Personal Fixes to Systemic Change

Imposter syndrome, commonly understood as self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy in professional settings, has been widely discussed as a barrier to personal success. However, this session will challenge the traditional narrative surrounding imposter syndrome, arguing that it is a misguided diagnosis rooted in systemic biases. Drawing on a critical article, we will explore how the concept emerged in the 1970s without accounting for the impacts of systemic racism, classism, xenophobia, and other structural inequities. Rather than pathologizing feelings of discomfort and second-guessing鈥攅specially in women and marginalized groups鈥攖he session will shift the focus to the workplace itself. Participants will engage in a meaningful dialogue about fostering environments that embrace diverse leadership styles and redefine professionalism to include racial, ethnic, and gender diversity.

Through reflection, discussion, and actionable insights, this session will encourage participants to move beyond individual "fixes" and toward advocating for systemic change that empowers all voices. Join us for an engaging and transformative conversation.

(C2) OHIO SOAR Analysis Workshop: A Useful Tool for Emerging Leaders

This workshop will provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools to complete a SOAR analysis for strategic planning. SOAR is a strategy formulation and planning framework that allows an organization to plan its preferred future through the lens of appreciative inquiry. SOAR invites stakeholders into conversations about an organization鈥檚 (a) Strengths 鈥 to describe what the organization does well, (b) Opportunities 鈥 to imagine future possibilities and innovations, (c) Aspirations 鈥 to identify purposeful goals that reflect what people value, and (d) Results 鈥 to articulate meaningful and measurable outcomes of collective efforts. 

(C3) The "Pow-Her" to Make Change Through Civic Engagement

Have you ever been frustrated by your elected officials, the policies they do or don鈥檛 champion, or just the state of government and politics? Instead of screaming into the void (which can feel good, but doesn鈥檛 accomplish much), you have the 鈥淧ow-Her鈥 to engage and make change! This session will cover different ways that you can get more civically engaged in order to push for change that benefits women and their families - whether that鈥檚 getting more informed before you vote, volunteering for a local levy campaign, or running for office yourself.

Mental resilience requires physical, emotional, social and spiritual coping skills. A core component of mental resilience is understanding one鈥檚 inherent strengths and how to build upon them during challenging times. Amelia Rose Earhart, Record-breaking Pilot, Professional Speaker

Amelia invites her audience to climb into the cockpit for a great story, and flight lessons on how to take a pilot鈥檚 perspective on navigating life鈥檚 turbulence.  Creative, adventurous and memorable, Amelia鈥檚 message proves that anything is possible with a solid flight plan.

As a boundary-pushing around the world pilot, Amelia Rose Earhart knows exactly what it takes to venture into uncharted territory鈥 with confidence. With the odds stacked against her, Amelia not only trained to become a pilot, but to become the type of pilot to choose honor the person she was named after, Amelia Mary Earhart, by piloting a single-engine airplane (Pilatus PC-12NG) 28,000 Nautical Miles around the globe. To accomplish this, Amelia developed a flight plan all her own, and while reporting full-time as on air, TV helicopter reporter, completed private, instrument and commercial pilot training, crafted an entrepreneurial and strategic business plan to design, fund and market her around the world attempt, raised close to $2 million in partnerships with 28 corporations, founded and ran the Fly With Amelia Foundation, which sent numerous teenage girls to flight school, and more.

Storytelling matters. People derive a sense of what to believe and how to act from stories shared at kitchen tables and on front porches, in classrooms and healthcare clinics, in news reports and through art exhibits. This interactive session will explore the generative potential of storytelling by focusing on its capacity in brave space-making. Dr. Harter will draw on her experiences as a writer, producer and director, and community activist to explore how to create brave spaces for narrative encounters that encourage understanding and connection across differences. 

(E4) Healthy Meals on a Budget

Don鈥檛 let the 6:00 dinner panic get you down! Come and learn both the nutritional benefits and the cost savings of preparing healthy meals. This program, taught by Shannon Carter from the OSU Extension, provides practical education on food selection, purchasing, and preparation, with emphasis on nutrition and the household budget

(E5) Healing Division: Correcting the Imbalance Between Empathy & Power

Amy E. Hull, M.Ed., Director, Head of Diversity Equity & Inclusion, Paycor Empowering Leaders

A McKinsey study released in Fall, 2024 revealed that for every 100 men, 84 women are promoted to leadership and that decreases to 54 for women of color. An abuse and imbalance of power leads to division and discrimination, but how can we address this? In this session, participants will get a brief, but deeper look into empathy, power, and how it shows up in life and the workforce as well as recommended solutions for women on how to work on self and help leaders become aware of their own imbalances. You are guaranteed to leave this session with a new way of thinking about how division is created and potential action steps to address it in schools, at work and in communities.
