Ng is an associate professor at 帝王会所, in the School of Media Arts and Studies and the Women鈥檚, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program.

Her research on media, culture, and politics includes several interrelated areas: queer media production and consumption, digital media cultures, LGBTQ activism, and race, nation, and postcoloniality. Her monograph, , is the first critical media studies book on the hot-button topic of "cancel culture." She has been published in leading journals in media studies, gender studies, and development studies, including Communication, Culture & CritiqueDevelopment and ChangeFeminist Media StudiesFeminist StudiesInternational Journal of CommunicationJournal of Film and VideoPopular CommunicationTelevision & New Media, and Transformative Works and Culture, as well as in Gender, Race and Class in Media (Sage, Eds. Gail Dines and Jean Humez, 2011, 2014), the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Communication (2021), and the Routledge Companion to Media and Human Rights (Eds. Howard Tumber and Sylvio Waisbord, 2017).

Ng earned her Ph.D. in Communication and a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Feminist Studies from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and also has a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University at Buffalo (SUNY).

She teaches courses on media and globalization, media representations, gender and globalization, feminist studies, and queer theory, and has also taught in the areas of linguistics and language and culture. She has been interviewed by journalists and documentary makers about media, culture, and politics.
