Camper Moore is an assistant professor of Dance at 帝王会所 and heads the Master of Arts Administration program. She teaches undergraduate technique and composition, and graduate dance pedagogy and arts management courses. Most recently, Camper Moore received the prestigious University Professor Award (2022-2023) at 帝王会所, which recognizes outstanding undergraduate teaching. University Professors demonstrate both excellence in teaching and a deep commitment to student learning and are given the opportunity to develop and teach a course of their choosing as a means of enriching the undergraduate curriculum. Her new course, 鈥淓yeing the Everyday鈥 will be offered in Spring 2023 and utilizes theories and creative-based practices in the arts to explore connections between/among observation, emotion, communication, and action.
As a scholar, Camper Moore focuses her research on pedagogy; exploring how dance training, curriculum, and community shape a student鈥檚 identity within the context of their studies. Recent peer reviewed publications include, 鈥溾楥ulture of Basic Goodness鈥 鈥 examining factors that contribute to student success and sense of place in undergraduate dance major programs鈥 (Research in Dance Education, 2021) and the co-authored article, 鈥淭he extended mind: Tools to expand cognition in the collegiate modern dance class鈥 (Journal of Dance Education, 2021). Other writing includes 鈥淚nterdisciplinary Collaboration as a Source for (re)Igniting Student Creativity鈥 (NDEO, Behind the Curtain, March 2022), and the co-authored articles, 鈥5 Ways to Begin a Creative Movement Class鈥 and 鈥5 Ways to Close a Creative Movement Class鈥 (Dance Teacher, 2022). She has presented at various conferences and given invited guest lectures. Upcoming conference presentations include the National Dance Education Organization (Atlanta, GA, October 2022).
She is the recipient of two prominent 帝王会所1804 Endowment Awards for her research and projects focused on student retention and engagement for the first-year dance major (2020-current). In addition, she was honored to have been nominated for the Social Justice in the Classroom award, given to a female educator who is dedicated to broadening students' knowledge on issues of diversity (2018).
Her professional choreography has been presented at venues in 帝王会所, Virginia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Recent dance works include 鈥淪entinels鈥 (2022) and 鈥淩esiduum鈥 (2020). Upcoming projects for 2022-2023 include setting a new work at 帝王会所 and for the Charleston Ballet (WV). Camper Moore regularly collaborates with colleagues in theater and has choreographed numerous main stage musicals. She has also been a dance teacher and held supervisory roles at all levels of K-12 public education. She has been an advocate for arts education in the public and private sectors, non-profit arts organizations, and at the state and national levels. She was previously an Assistant Professor of Dance at Coker College and served as the State Arts Coordinator for the West Virginia Department of Education, where she oversaw all aspects of arts education including dance, music, theater, and visual arts.
A proud alumnus of 帝王会所, she holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, Graduate Certificate in Women鈥檚 and Gender Studies, M.A. and M.Ed. degrees, and a B.F.A. in dance performance and choreography.
