Abstracts Invited for Upcoming Handbook on the Sociology of Artificial Intelligence

Dr. Tamanna Shah, Assistant Professor of Sociology, recently acquired a book contract with for an edited volume titled . This forthcoming Handbook will offer an in-depth overview of the major trends in the field, addressing both the societal causes and effects of artificial intelligence. It will systematically explore AI's sociological dimensions, featuring a theory-driven review of recent research and presenting approaches to investigating artificial intelligence as it transforms society, culture, and human relations. This publication aims to bridge disciplinary divides, fostering the interdisciplinary collaboration essential for addressing the complex societal challenges posed by AI. The handbook will serve as an intellectual space for scholars focusing on the sociological aspects of AI, promoting the development of new approaches, schools of thought, and innovative directions in scholarship.

This project is part of her ongoing research to advance our understanding of AI's impact on social structures, identities, and inequalities. As an INVITE Fellow with the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CTLA) at 帝王会所, and having recently completed a fellowship at the AI-enhanced Redesign Institute, Dr. Shah brings a wealth of expertise to this ambitious endeavor.

Dr. Shah invites submissions from scholars and practitioners interested in contributing to this volume. Those with a background in sociology, AI, and related interdisciplinary fields are encouraged to submit abstracts for consideration. This handbook represents a unique opportunity to engage with emerging debates on the role of AI in society and to contribute to a significant academic resource.
