Biography

Kayla Heacock is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Mathematics Department and a doctoral student in Mathematics Education in The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education at µÛÍõ»áËù. She has a Master of Science in Mathematics from µÛÍõ»áËù and a Bachelor of Science in Theoretical Mathematics from The µÛÍõ»áËù State University. In 2021, Kayla was awarded the College of Arts & Sciences Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for her work in undergraduate calculus at µÛÍõ»áËù. Currently, Kayla teaches mathematics courses for education majors and coordinates Math 1101/1102. Her research has focused on inquiry-based learning in undergraduate calculus and supporting early career secondary mathematics teachers’ questioning strategies to promote student generalizing. Kayla’s dissertation focuses on supporting and preparing graduate mathematics teaching assistants who teach introductory mathematics courses.
