College of Arts & Sciences Giving Opportunities
Philanthropy drives innovation and impact in the College for its students and faculty. Dean Matthew Ando has identified areas of opportunity your personal philanthropy could increase impact in the highest areas of need for the College:
- Supporting Students 鈥 The ability to distribute scholarships to CAS students increases recruitment and retention among our twenty College departments and programs. With a 12% increase in enrollment within the College over the past 4 years, there are more students needing scholarship support.
- Experiential Learning - Experiential Learning encompasses the application of classroom learning to life-changing opportunities like internships, research and creative activity, study abroad/away, leadership, and community service. With increased costs of living around the world, philanthropy can further a student鈥檚 educational experience by removing financial barriers that interfere with these important external opportunities. To share an example, a student had to decline an internship in Washington, D.C. because they couldn鈥檛 afford to live there on the stipend offered and philanthropic support could have provided the student access.
- Investing in Faculty 鈥 Faculty are the catalysts for the student experience within the College. Mentorship, advising, and research opportunities are ways faculty serve CAS students beyond the classroom teaching that is expected of them. Support for faculty empowers them to establish new initiatives to create more transformative learning experiences for students to prepare them for a competitive job market.

Emergency Scholarship Fund
Every year, current students face a one-time emergency that threatens their ability to stay in school. For some, it is a $500 car repair keeping them from making it to class/work. For others, it is choosing between paying an emergency medical bill or making their tuition payment for next semester. Some students have lost their job and don鈥檛 know how they will pay rent for the remaining semester. The offers one-time grants to students in need.
-
Experiential Learning Fund
A gift to the enables our students to gain real-world skills that help prepare them for their career. $500 can help a Biology student travel to Cleveland to present their research at a conference; $1,000 can help a History student travel to search archives for their research; $2,500 can allow a student to accept an unpaid internship without worrying about how to pay rent; these are just a few examples of how experiential learning can enhance a student鈥檚 education.
-
General Scholarship Endowment
Financial need continues to be one of the biggest barriers to accessing higher education, and we know that scholarships between $1,000-4,000 can remove the barrier and help more students choose to earn their degree from OHIO. Your gift to the helps us attract, and retain, the best and brightest students like senior Missy Pedulla:
鈥湹弁趸崴 has always been my dream school and because of my scholarships I have been able to live my dream for the past four years.鈥
